Management System Solutions
Challenge: Develop and implement an environmental management system to achieve ISO14001 certification and integrate with a certified quality system across two sites in Australia.
Strategy: Graham A Brown & Associates was contracted by Assa Abloy (then Lockwood Australia) in 2004 and started with a scoping exercise to determine the elements of the
existing quality and operational systems that could be used to develop the EMS. The scoping exercise resulted in a comprehensive project plan, aiming for ISO14001 certification in 2005.
The resulting EMS utilised the best of the existing procedures and processes, while redesigning the outdated ones and developing the missing ones.
Graham A Brown & Associates also accompanied Assa Abloy personnel at the certification audit, providing valuable backup and support for the system coordinator.
Development and implementation tasks included:
- training needs analysis
- training development and delivery
- train the environmental trainer
- facilitate risk assessment sessions
- documentation development and revision
- performance and compliance audits
- internal systems audits
- facilitate management review
Results: EMS certified to ISO14001 in 2005 with no nonconformances. Improved operational performance (e.g. waste savings and improved chemical handling), alignment with the quality system, compliance assurance and increased overall environmental and management system awareness.
Follow-up: Assa Abloy have utilised the experience of Graham A Brown & Associates in other areas such as performance and compliance auditing, provision of customised and off-the-shelf training and legal advice.
